final project (full version)

Our topic: focus on the transgender group in SL ,explore the deeper meaning of gender and ask the question "is SL a paradise for TG group?" which means that SL provides a better environment than RL. Since in SL, the boundary of gender is blurred, we want to do a survey to examine what TG group think their identity is.

This is our information sheet

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

Subtopic I: the reasons they choose to be transgender in SL

1. Do you choose to be transgender out of fun or interest?

2. Are you led by others to come here or by yourself?

3. If it is out of fun, what fun can you get from it?

After our discussion, we think that we oversimplify the issue of gender in SL. And it’s difficult to ask them questions because we might not easily tell their gender through the appearance of the avatar and ask further questions.

Subtopic II: comparison of transgender culture in SL & RL

1. What do you think about the present transgender situations in RL?

2. What do you think about the present transgender situations in SL?

3. What are your daily activities in SL?

4. Apart from the activities here, do you take part in other activities with people who are not transgender?

In the virtual world of SL, people don’t need to worry about the tag that people think who they are. They could just socialize with people freely.

Subtopic III: existing problems

1. Have you ever encountered any kind of embarrassment because of who you are? What’s your reaction towards those embarrassments?

Interview place: Transgender Resource Center in SL

Emily Spieler: I’m 45 in August. I think that TG is the most narccistic group on earth .In SL I just stick to people and not worry what tag they have or think they have .My point is that we go through some issues that are not very easy to understand even for some of us. And August is my 2 yr anni for coming out, and that 1st year of marraige went by fast too
Belunar Drake: I am a MTF person, hermaphrodite mentally and spiritually. If your looking at SL instead of TG, that’s a bit different…I consider SL to be a way to socialise, a way to be creative when the mood strikes, maybe at times a way to relax when I’m not in the mood to play computer or console games…I feel more accepted here than I do IRL at times; people seem less likely to judge here than RL. Sometimes I feel that it is because the average person on this planet is ignorant, closed minded, intolerant of anything outside of average

Mnemi Falodir: I am TG in real life; but I won’t emphasize and say I’m also a TG in SL. Of course, I feel more relaxed in TG Resources or some clubs because I could meet friends they are the same as me and get some advice. I am essentially a woman who unfortunately was born male genetically. Real life is often tough on us, more so than the so called average public. We are an unaccepted unique class of people which are often wrongfully treated. SL we can be who we were meant to without ever receiving the hardships. Plus, if someone has an issue with me, I love the ability to mute. I am accepted here, irl people would rather I not exist. The majority of us just wanna be seen as normal, feel normal, society doesn't want that. TG is a term for all people with gender related issues not trans specifically. It's not how someone will look at me, so much is how I am treated and potentially abused. In my case my unacceptance by which my family refuses to accept what is and their attempt to "cure" the virus. Imagine if someone were to tell you, you were a guy, and you had to marry a woman, be a man, join the military, or be casted out.

I got much information after interviewing and knew that every November 20, there is an international Transgender Day for Remembrance to memorize their brothers and sisters who died because they were trans. Many of them are those who were driven to suicide because family, friends, or society would not allow them to be their true selves.Through this interview I found that TG people actually are very friendly to answer my questions. But when asking questions, sometimes we should be very careful...For one example, I talked to one TG friend that parents all wanted their children to be normal. Then she argued what the definition of "normal" is with me. I think it is still very difficult to stand in the shoes of them because I am not a transgender person and all I can do is try to realize them and respect them. After all, I think we should all treat those people friendly and don't criticize them harshly and respect their own choices and their rights to live.

Sexual liberate and satisfy your inward desire in second life

Do you want to become a sexy and lustful person in your life? Of course, you don’t need to spend big money to have a plastic surgery and worry about the pain or the scars. Even if you are below eighteen, just prepare your money and shop in the sex store for adults-only goods. By changing your body shape, you could satisfy your inward desires with a sexual-looking shape and attract people no matter you are heterosexual, gay or lesbian.
One day, I changed my gender identity to male and visited “the Tristar gay bar.” To my surprising, the place was so incredible and free that people could have sex with each other in public spaces. Men were flirting with each other. Being polite, a person even invited me to a private space and asked me if I was willing to have sexual behavior with him. He also hoped that I could be naked to make him excited. Even though I refused him, he was still very kind and respected my own will. I also noticed that other people in the bar were half-naked and they swung their body sensationally and had good body shape. “The avatar is animated and some people would get excited which might be equal to watching lustful pornography; the different situation is that you are the main character, “said by Tolly Weatherwax, a visitor in the bar.
It seems that in second life, people don’t have to worry and think about the moral issues, responsibilities, burdens of love ,relationships and whether making love in public or private rooms is proper or not. It happens naturally in second life because we never need to worry those problems. According to your feelings, you could decide whether you want to be a man or woman today. You have the freedom to have sexual behavior with another avatar when you get his or her permission.
However, in real life, we might not have the chance to visit a gay bar or pub. Some people might think it is dangerous. But in second life, you could have your own choice to visit there and express your sexual tendencies and desires freely to your heart content.

Sexual liberate and satisfy your inward desire in second life(revision 1)

Do you want to become a sexy and lustful person in your life? Of course, you don’t need to spend big money to have a plastic surgery and worry about the pain or the scars. Even if you are below eighteen, just prepare your money and shop in the sex store for adults-only goods. By changing your body shape, you could satisfy your sexual desires with a sexual-looking shape and attract people no matter you are heterosexual, gay or lesbian.
I visited “The Trister gay bar” and find it was very incredible and surprising. People feel free to have sex with each other in public space. Being polite, a person even invites me to a private space and asks me if I am willing to have sexual behavior with him. He also hopes that I could be naked to make him excited. Even though I refuse him, he is still very kind and respects me. I also notice that other people in the bar are half-naked and have good body shape. It seems that in second life, people don’t have to worry and think about the moral issues, responsibilities, burdens of love and relationships to think whether making love is proper or not. It happens naturally in second life.
In real life, because of the gender dualism, we are born in male or female; we have no choice but become and be asked to behave like a man or woman. Nowadays, people begin to rethink if the boundary of gender is necessary, unbreakable and de-sexualized has its meaning because more and more people find out that they have different sexual tendency. However, in second life, we never have to worry about the controversial issue. According to your feelings, you could decide whether you want to be a man or woman today. You have the freedom to have sexual behavior with another avatar when you get his or her permission. The avatar is animated and some people would get excited which might be equal to watching lustful pornography; the different situation is that you are the main character. However, in real life, we might not have the chance to visit a gay bar or pub. Some people might think it is dangerous. But in second life, you could have your own choice to visit there and express your sexual tendencies and desires freely and contently which might make us feel more confident in real life!

[2010/05/04 19:19] Ruby Lysios: you might add the subject "we"
[2010/05/04 19:19] Susie223 Chun: it's not strange, I think
[2010/05/04 19:20] Ding Atolia: I think it's a sentence structure

[2010/05/04 19:29] Ding Atolia: ooooooh
[2010/05/04 19:30] Ding Atolia: so the second-hand stores are useless[2010/05/04 19:30] Ding Atolia: haha
[2010/05/04 19:31] Ding Atolia: maybe we should call it throw-away stores-things other people don't want anymore but useful to other people
[2010/05/04 19:31] Ding Atolia: not throw-away exactly haha
[2010/05/04 19:32] Ruby Lysios: and maybe you could sell the things you do not want and make money
[2010/05/04 19:32] Ding Atolia: yeah that's what I mean
[2010/05/04 19:32] Ding Atolia: so all advice taken and i will make more efforts ha
[2010/05/04 19:32] Susie223 Chun: I see your point
[2010/05/04 19:32] Ding Atolia: any other suggestions?
[2010/05/04 19:33] Susie223 Chun: no
[2010/05/04 19:33] Ruby Lysios: no
[2010/05/04 19:33] Ding Atolia: or can we take a break now or at 11:00
My comment:
We are all curious about how to make money and buy lands to become the master. This week we were kicked out by the fram owner next to Mortu. He was so rude...but it seemed a special experience in second life.
Buying a house in secold life could mean a escape for us. In real life, we couldn't afford to buy one. In second life, we might decorate and design the house by our own and get a sense of achievement.
Sonny is encouraged to interview the owners and ask how they make money and what they feel about that. This could add to her writing and compare people's feeling of those house owners in second life and reality.

Become attractive person and desire in second life

Do you want to become a sexy and lustful person in your life? Of course, you don’t need to spend big money to have a plastic surgery and worry about the pain or the scars. Even if you are below eighteen, just prepare your money and shop in the sex store for adults-only goods. By changing your body shape, you could satisfy your sexual desires with a sexual-looking shape and attract people no matter you are heterosexual, gay or lesbian.

In real life, because of the gender dualism, we are born in male or female; we have no choice but become and ask to behave like a man or woman.

I visit “The Trister gay bar” and find it is very incredible and surprising. People feel free to have sex with each other in public space. However, in real life, we might not have the chance to visit a gay bar or pub. Some people might think it is dangerous. But in second life, you could have your own choice to visit there and express your sexual tendencies and desires freely and contently which might make us feel more confident in real life!

There will be a show on May2, starting from 6:00 am till 8:00 pm (second life time) in the place “Phantom of the Rose.” We will be treated to a day of music, dance and poetry. It is a rare chance to experience this kind of pleasure by watching the show. The admission is free and you could just wear your casual clothes. I am so excited and looking forward to it!

Enjoy yourself in NCU Campus Café! A Cozy environment with friendly staff(revision)

For the people in NCU, have you ever smelled the strong scent of coffee from the well-decorated restaurant in the basement of the Graduate Students Building? NCU Campus Café is a place and where you can chat with your friends after class to get rid of stress and enjoy the quiet atmosphere with some refreshments and drinks. You could bring lap- tops to use Wi-Fi and do homework there or bring books or novels to kill time with a cup of Latte or Cappuccino.
One student, Tzung Han Lin, who often visited Campus Café, said that he enjoyed the afternoon tea very much especially with a strawberry waffle and a cup of Caramel Macchiatto. “They are very professional and kind. It's hard to believe that they are all students just like me,” said by Yu Ting Li, another student in NCU.

Tzung Han Lin was surprised that the restaurant was managed by a team of students in NCU. The team includes a manager, an accountant, two marketing managers, and a human resource manager. Most of them are juniors or seniors. The student workers, who have part-time job in the restaurant, are required to attend a series of training to make sure that they have developed work habits and attitudes, such as wearing a cap and an apron during work time and following the rule of “Customers are always first.” According to their working performance, they have three working levels from waiters, who need to serve all the customers, then chefs, who need to prepare food and cook, to bar tenders, who need to prepare for the refreshments and make the drinks.
Being enthusiastic, the workers try their best to satisfy all customers. When needing help, they also help each other. ‘’We are just like a family,” said by one of the workers, Jing-Yi Hung. They are not well-paid, but they do not work for money. They work for experiences and opportunities to meet more friends who share the same interests about making refreshments and coffee. It is really unforgettable for students to have this kind of working experience in the college life. As an ex-worker in Campus Café, I strongly recommend that students could have this kind of working experience and also spend your free time relaxing in Campus Café!

[2010/03/23 19:59] Ruby Lysios: that's good
[2010/03/23 19:59] Susie223 Chun: thanks

2.At first Jessie thought that maybe in paragraph 1 "The gender equality education in Taipei falls back to 15 years ago due to the official document which was delivered to every middle school in Taipei by Taipei Department of Education a few days ago, said Lai Youmei, the chief secretary of The Gender Equality Education Association." we could say dropping by instead of said by Lai Youmen, but after our discussion we think me might use the word "said" because it's more common in News report.

The sentence "The document showed that the Taipei Municipal Government treated queers as epidemic virus, that’s why they were so angry" should be "The document showed that the Taipei Municipal Government treated queers as epidemic virus, and that’s why they were so angry"

After the remonstrance, Kang Zonghu, the director of Taipei Department of Education...we don't need to add the word "Taipei" because it is not the organization under the city.

In the next school year, relational content will appear in the textbooks. Jessie thinks using the word relevant instead of relaional will be better.

3. I think the news article written by Susie gives us lots of information; what she wrote was very objective and without her personal feelings. The article was also quite well-organized and we could see and understand the basic background through each paragraph clearly about gender equality education.

Sadness and Sorrow toward New Taiwan Brides(revised version)

Recently, it becomes a trend that more and more migrant brides immigrate in Taiwan. The population of them has increased rapidly and according to Ministry of the Interior, there are more than 400,000 migrant brides in Taiwan, coming from Vietnam, Indonesia, and China. The migrant brides make Taiwan a multicultural country that symbolizes vitality and vigorousness. However, there are still some controversial issues and problems toward migrant brides that some people argue migrant brides has become a burden to our society; “we need to pay more attention to them and concern not only about the migrant brides but their children,” claimed by the social workers.

On March 18, there was a press conference held by Taipei Women’s center that invited some migrant brides to share their experiences and talk about the struggle they had confronted. “Once I had the notion to kill myself…fall from the roof, but I saw my child's smile, which was so naive, simple, and innocent…so I didn’t want to die…” said by YU HUA, from Vietnam; she have stayed in Taiwan for five years. Whenever she reminded the days after her husband died, she could not help but crying. She brought up the artistic child independently and now had a stable job with the assistance of Social Affairs Bureau.
Besides YU HUA, there are still many helpless migrant brides in the difficult situation that need more people concern such as the education of their children, domestic violence, and racial discrimination…We hope our society could be more fair and exist justice to deal with the issues; the government could enact the laws to protect the migrant brides and strive for their rights. Hopefully we could try our best to let them feel Taiwan people’s warmth and friendliness. We could help comfort their minds to support the migrant brides and wish to see there smiles every day.
